Up to the product shipment, either by air or by sea, a number
of operations is required in order to obtain a product with
high quality and standardization in compliance with the
international requirements.
Harvest
It’s carried out by the producers who seek to remove
materials adhered to the roots such as soil, for example.
The roots selection is also performed at this stage by grouping
those conforming to the export standards.
Transportation
Performed by Gaia itself in an expeditious way with a view
to reducing the time between harvest and processing.
Processing
Consists of:
Washing – we remove the soil, organic
matter and vegetal leftovers by means of a pressurized
water blast, in case of the Ginger.
Cleaning or Toilet – we remove faulty
parts from the roots and parts from the mother plant.
This is a manual process.

Ginger Cleaning
Post-harvest – a treatment for the superficial
disinfection is carried out, as this will prevent fungi
attacks.
Drying – intended to remove the moisture
resulting from the washing and post-harvest treatment
as well as promote the product “curing”.
Packing – packed into 14-kg boxes, the
roots remaining in open boxes at a cool and ventilated
location up to the shipping date. The storage is done
in cold chamber up to the product shipment.

Ginger Packing

Eddoes Packing
Shipping – the load is assembled on pallets
whose dimensions or number of boxes will be dependent
on the final transportation means to be used for the export.
The transportation is by the sea and we use cold chamber
containers.
