
The Brazilian fruits are gradually penetrating the world
marketplace and paving the way to transform Brazil into
a great exporter, creating new business opportunities for
Brazilian farmers on a highly profitable undertaking.
Data by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Provisioning
(MAPA) shows that the exports of fresh fruits, in 2001,
reached 590.6 thousand tons and US$ 221.4 million of billing.
This represents a 36.2% leap in volume, and a 26.7% leap
in the revenue, when compared to the previous year.
Papaya is among the main fruits being exported, together
with guava, mango, melon, orange, grape, banana, lemon,
lime, tangerine, pineapple, and watermelon.
